A Brit Abroad

My name is Terry and I'm a 50 something year old dis-enchanted ex-pat Brit living in Cyprus. Why am I dis-enchanted? You'll find reasons enough throughout my tumble log, along with quirky items that amused me and things I think need highlighting, and occasional quotes from some of my favourite novels. Oh, and maybe some original work of my own.

R.I.P Sir Bobby Robson

For personal reasons my day has been deeply affected by the death of this great man. Apart from being a brilliant football manager he also came from the same part of the country as me and my parents. My father used to proudly boast that as a young lad he’d played in the same local league as Sir Bobby and played against him many times. While Sir Bobby went on to become a professional footballer, my grandparents decided that despite my father’s obvious ability (he’d been for trials at Burnley and been selected) it wasn’t a ‘proper job’ and ‘no career for a young man’, and so ended his football career opportunity there and then. My father died nearly two years ago, also from cancer but he was always proud of his association with the great man. I regret never getting the chance to meet him.
